The tank team collects and tests water from the three different tanks throughout the High Tech North County Village. We test for levels of phosphate, dissolved oxygen, nitrite, nitrate, ammonia, alkalinity, pH, and turbidity. Levels of these components changing in the water could affect the fish in many ways. If there is too much phosphate in the water, a long process will occur that will eventually remove oxygen from the water which harms (or kills) the fish. Dissolved oxygen is oxygen in the water that fish need to continue breathing. When nitrite levels are too high in the water it can be toxic to fish, so we test it to make sure we have tolerable amounts. Alkalinity is affected by high pH in the water, so we test both. Everything we test for effects the fish, one way or another. Our whole purpose is to make sure our water is safe for the trout to grow in.
