The first project team update will consist of improvements from the Website team, Elfin Forest team, and 3D Visualization team.
The Elfin Forest team is planning to make a 3D laser-cut topographic puzzle of the Escondido watershed. To do this, each elevation layer will be cut out separately onto wood, then assembled manually. The layers would also be cut vertically into pieces to create a 3D puzzle for visitors to put together in order to learn about the watershed. To go along with this puzzle, they are also making a collage book with a page dedicated to explaining each major chemical, bacterium, plant, and animal in the watershed. Each page will contain a brief summary and several visuals to help visitors of all levels understand some of the important components of the watershed. The student research papers will also be available to view, with numbers on the collage pages matching to the corresponding papers in a binder. As of now, the chemical and bacterium summaries are finished, and the plant and animal summaries are being worked on. There are a few rough sketches of the different chemicals, and rough ideas for what other visuals will be on each page. The Elfin Forest Team is collaborating with he 3D team for the puzzle, so they are waiting for their Adobe Illustrator file to cut into puzzle pieces before the puzzle can be laser cut. The Website Team first planned a schedule of work that consisted of when we would complete tasks, what jobs were assigned to which team member, and what pages needed to be created. We first started with the simple things: a layout for the website, a URL, a logo. They completed these tasks within the whole group, and are now continuing to build pages, making sure the format is consistent throughout the website, and inputting the logo. They plan on continuing to fill this website with every component of the project to fully ensure donors and visitors understand the importance and education of saving the watershed.
