The trout in the classroom project is winding down, each group is finishing up there final products. The 3D team is building and testing there final submersible design. The tank team is writing a collaborative research paper to share there findings. The 3rd, 8th, and 11th grade teams are all creating a survey. Each respective grade will take the surveys and hopefully the data we receive will help us better understand what everyone has learned through this collaborative project. The Website team is putting the final touches on the site and making sure all of the links are active.

Yesterday we took a field trip to Lake Miramar to release the trout. The 11th, 10th, 8th, and 3rd grade classes working on this project all went on this trip. We shared what we learned during this project and wrote wishes for the trout we were releasing. We also if course released the trout we had raised throughout the course of the project. The Middle and High School students participated in the first annual Trout Trot, they could walk/run 1K, 5K, or 8K.

The 3D team has began receiving the necessary supplies to create their submerisble. The goal is for it to measure temperature, light penetration through the water, and recording point of view from underwater. It is going to have an onboard camera, and an accelerometer and motors. They are currently working on a design that utilizes PVC pipe and acrylic. Currently they are writing code for a prototype.

San Dieguito Lagoon Field Trip - 2/22/17

2/23/2017

Comments

Yesterday we went on a field trip to the San Dieguito Lagoon, we broke into three groups. One tested water, one tested soil, and the third hiked and looked at the history, ecosystems, and wildlife of the location. After that we all came together and shared our findings. The water testing team shared the data they collected with the rest of the group. They tested water from three different locations, the river, the first treatment pond, and a theoretical hotel site. The soil team tested the soil, they determined if the soil had clay or not, and how moist it was. The final team hiked towards the ocean, they learned about the history of the land, and the wildlife that currently lives there.

Comments

This week we have continued working on our projects. The Tank Team is still running tests on the trout tanks. The 3D team has began to create a materials list and design for there submersible. The final goal is to create something that can sample the temperature of water. The website team is working on updating the data and creating graphs to visualize that data. The 8th grade team is planing a lesson on nitrite.  The 3rd grade team is creating a scavenger hunt about how the High Tech Village treats water. The 11th grade team is talking to the 11th graders about the final product of there project. Tomorrow we are going on a field  trip to the San Dieguido Lagoon, we are going to collect water and soil samples.
